Roundtable on the topic “Position and perspective of science and technology in Serbia” has taken place at Continental hotel, Belgrade

Knowledge Committee of Serbia, Nongovernmental Organization, organized a Roundtable on the topic “State and perspective of science and technology in Serbia” on Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 at Continental hotel, Belgrade.

Eminent economists, Danijel Cvjetićanin, PhD, and Ljubomir Madžar, PhD, gave their opinion on direct connection between economy and science. They also emphasized the importance of creating an objective need for scientific research in our country, taking into consideration the fact that without good economic structurethe investment in science and technology development will not be appropriate for the affirmation of scientific research.

Ljubiša Topisirović, PhD, represented the work of Institute for molecular genetics and genetic engeneering (IMGGI) and stressed the importance of developing a „knowledge society“, because, according to professor's words „there is no rescue from intellectual colonialism”. In very illustrative and popular way, professor has explained the work of IMGGI’s scientists and enigmas they are trying to solve.

Vladimir Katić, Phd, from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad, spoke about renewable energy, considering the fact that in the next hundred years, traditional fossil fuels will slowly disappear. Together with his team, professor Katić is exploring possibilities of using wind energy in our country. They are also making „wind maps“ in order to come up with alternative solutions for this priceless issue.
In line, the first solar mini-power-plant was installed at the roof of their Faculty.

Miodrag Stojković, PhD, a faunder of the first clinic for artificial insemination in Serbia, emphasized the importance of investing in preventive medicine and encouraged its' development. According to his words, preventive medicine provides better life quality to patients and fighting with disease itself is less expensive than any active medical treatement.

Ivan Đorđević, PhD, a researcher at the Institute for multidisciplinar studies, Belgrade, and an active member of Knowledge Committee of Serbia, pointed out the challenges that young scientists are facing with by comming back to Serbia after completion of university studies abroad. He also drew attention to unnecessairly complicated processes such as nostrification of doctoral diplomas.

Radivoje Mitrović, PhD, a State secretary at the Ministry of Education and Science, spoke about State's willingness to support young people as well as to promote Serbian science and make it competitive. He claimed that the unification of Ministries of education and science could have a good impact on active collaboration and coordination of needs of educational and research institutions.

XIV Pediatrics school seminar in Serbia

Members of the Knowledge committee of Serbia participated in the XIV Pediatric School seminar in Zlatibor, Serbia, from 5th to 11th June. Serbian Ministry of Health was the main sponsor of this event.

The seminar lasted for seven days and consisted of lectures and exercises that were conducted by doctors in the field of pediatrics. As every year, turnout was great, and this year the Knowledge committee of Serbia had its representatives and the lecturers at the participants.

 
Civil Society Fair held
06. 06. 2011.

Knowledge committee of Serbia participated at the second fair of civil society organizations organized by the Agency for European Integration and cooperation with associations. The fair was opened by U.S. Ambassador Mary Warlick and Chairman of the Agency for European integration and cooperation with associations, Danko Runić.

This year participated 63 non-governmental Organizations, of which one third had a program in the following round table discussions, presentations and lectures. On the second day of the fair Knowledge committee of Serbia had a presentation of their project which was presented knowledge and science of Serbia as its most important resource.

 

 
Youth Activism in Serbia - reality and perspectives

Knowledge committee of Serbia and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Foundation supported the conference "Youth Activism in Serbia - reality and prospects" held 26.05. in the Conference Hall of Serbian Chamber of Commerce. The conference was organized by a group of four young activists, Academy students, "Young leaders of Serbia 2011" at the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

In the presence of more than 150 young activists of political parties and NGOs from all over the Serbia, about topic youth activism discussed representatives of government and state bodies, and prominent youth activists. The speakers were Slobodan Milosavljevic, former Minister of Trade and Services, current adviser to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Milan Labudović, head of department for cooperation with young people at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Srdjan Milivojevic, MP, Jovana Mehandžić, a member of the Belgrade City Council and Božana Vukadinović, president and divine of youth LSV.

The conference also touched on the role and status of youth in Serbia, the importance of youth activism, and speakers are listed some examples of good practice by providing guidance to young people how to improve their activism. In the lively discussion that followed the opening statement, the young people showed great interest in the topic. Some of the most commonly asked questions were how to find employment upon completion of the study, prospects for their professional work, sources of funding for youth projects, opportunities for greater involvement of young people in making important decisions for the company. Young activists have initiated a debate on the possibilities of funding talented young people, as well as funds that invest in science and education.

Vukasin Grozdanović, president of the Organization of Young Roof Serbia responded to questions of young people. Speakers urged the youth to create opportunities and take an active stance in social and political environment. Youth Voices is transferred and Vladimir Kokanovic, ogranizacionog member team, which is present already quoted a sentence from a legendary American political life: "If not us, who? If not now, when?".

 

 
Civil Society Fair
26. 05. 2011.

Knowledge committee of Serbia will take part at the second fair of civil society organizations organized by the Agency for European Integration and cooperation with associations. The fair is held 2nd and 3 June at the Nikola Pasic Square. The fair will present sixty non-governmental organizations, of which nineteen, including the KCS have the opportunity to frame the round tables, lectures, presentations or high profile production of its work and vision of the organization.

On the second day of the fair, 3rd June, the Knowledge committee of Serbia will organize the presentation "Young and successful people – Knowledge committee of Serbia" in the period from 15 to 16h in the hall of the City Administration building at the Nikola Pasic Square, No.6.

We invite all who are interested to visit the Fair of civil society.
